This will anger/upset many a Black folk and some caucasians too but that has never stopped me from voicing my opinions/thoughts/ideas before today, and it won't stop me right now either.
I have never been a fan of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Reason: He took on the responsibility of representing a whole race of people during the civil rights struggle, and couldn't keep his cock in his pants while fighting for Black Americans this entire planet over. Dr. King did great things, he brought "Colored Folks" out of the segregation of the past and into integration, and forward towards equality. He is the face of the civil rights movement. For that alone he deserves respect, I just wish he could have had a bit more self respect for himself, and more respect and honor for his wife.
That said....I am totally against Glenn Beck and his intrusion into the celebration of Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech. The following is "borrowed" from the Celebrate The Dream.org website.
"On August 28, 2010, the nation will celebrate the 47th anniversary of the “I Have a Dream” speech delivered by Rev. Martin Luther King at the Lincoln Memorial. This year, however, the people gathering at the memorial steps won’t be there to commemorate this historic occasion. They will be there to co-opt it. Daring to believe that he can stand in Rev. King’s shoes, Glenn Beck will deliver an “I have a plan” address to thousands of teabaggers. Beck wants to transform the unity of the Dream into a nightmare of division."
Now I understand this is America, and as an American Mr. Beck has every right to assemble and demonstrate peacefully as he and his group of racist caucasians wish while breaking no laws. My question is this....does it strike anyone, beside me, as very ironic that on August 28th, 2010 ....the 47th anniversary of Dr. Kings I Have A Dream speech...Mr. Beck is assembling at the very site Dr. King spoke about caucasians exactly like Mr. Beck and his followers?
What makes this public display of disrespect to Dr. King AND his dream any different than A Mosque/Islamic Cultural Center being built miles away from the Ground Zero site of the 9/11 bombings?
Is it disrespectful, according to caucasians, to build this Islamic Center, which contains a Mosque inside, blocks/miles away from Ground Zero.....but NOT disrespectful to hold a demonstration, by racists caucasians, on the exact site Dr. King gave his most famous speech on racial equality on the 47th anniversary of that speech?
We can NOT build a Muslim Mosque inside an Islamic Cultural Center in the VICINITY of Ground Zero,.....but we CAN desecrate the memory of an event of enormous importance to millions on August 28th, 2010.
Once again, racist caucasians prove to be hateful selfish uncaring shallow conceited people who have no soul or heart.
