Racial Pride

I was engaged in a conversation a few days ago where an older Black American female was remarking on her racial pride for the POTUS and his being the first Black American in the White House. Lo and behold, a caucasian younger woman came forward saying that this older Black American was playing the race card by saying what she said. Of course I totally, strongly disagree.


Racial pride to a person of color, who has witnessed racial oppression as far back as one can remember, means having pride in seeing someone of your particular race become a trailblazer, make a way for, become the very first, or do something very well while representing your people. It should not be exclusive to any one race to have racial pride. ALL people of ALL races should and do have racial pride, but for some reason Black Americans are made to feel negative about their racial price


Many, many Black Americans have racial pride for POTUS Obama, exactly as they did for Jackie Robinson.
Just as the did for Harold Washington in Chicago. Just as they did for Thurgood Marshall. Racial pride is a natural reaction to anything good/great that is accomplished bu your "people'. Now for the race card...not really sure what this means, race card, is it in reference to the "O.J." trial of the mid 90's? I believe that was the first time I ever heard that "race card" used.
To Caucasians Americans......Don't worry, it is perfectly OK for people to feel racial pride, it is not racists, it is not code for anything negative.
To Black Americans....Continue on as you were.
